War in Ukraine – Appeal to all

We are watching with horror the consequences of the conflict in Ukraine, not only in the country and its infrastructure but especially for the people, women and children who are suffering the long-term consequences of survival and forced relocation – immigration.

Images of leveling historic cities, damaged homes and empty prams of missing children, stories of survivors and images of refugees cannot go unnoticed.

More than two million refugees, according to the latest UN figures, have already fled their homes to Poland alone, and as many to other neighboring countries.

The question of whether they will see their own people again and whether they will return to their homes and how, remains vague on an unknown horizon.

At the same time, there are people who take advantage of the desperation and anxiety of refugee women. Human trafficking circuits are always active. Cases of sexual exploitation of Ukrainian women who fled to Germany to escape the hell of war have already been reported.

As the international community turns its attention to Vladimir Putin’s next moves, the new refugee crisis unfolding on the EU’s eastern border is exacerbating problems for citizens around the world.

The humanitarian crisis in the region continues, the humanitarian mobilization for help is facing delivery problems, the consequences affect us all, wherever we are.

At a time when we are trying to get out of the crisis of the COVID pandemic, we feel the threat of starting in Europe what could be the worst war since the beginning of the century, with catastrophic consequences not only for Ukraine, not only tragic for Russia, but with an impact that we can not even predict in relation to the consequences for the world economy, and therefore us. The effects of high oil prices, the end of wheat exports from Ukraine, rising interest rates that cause instability in international markets, but also speculation, the lives of all of us in every corner, and in Greece of course, are affected and creates conditions of insecurity and even fear of survival for every citizen, especially women and their children.

And let us not forget, because we now see Ukraine, that the rest of the planet is not frozen. In addition to the ongoing 2021 crisis with Afghanistan, war and insecurity are rampant in every corner of the globe, from Bosnia Herzegovina to Syria, Libya, and many other areas.

It is the duty of the International Organizations, created in the aftermath of the previous wars to support the need for human security, to act actively, collectively and individually, to operate the principles of conflict resolution, for which science has been created and to “force” a creative dialogue all sides.

It is our duty, in addition to the human-humanitarian contribution to the victims, to push the International Community to take action with a clear and immediate statement of our will.

We send personal and collective messages to everyone, from the Secretary-General of the United Nations, the President of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe, the Presidency of the European Union, the Secretary-General of NATO, to Governments, agencies and Companies.

We can not watch apathetically. #stopthewar #protectcivilians
